Meet us at the ALT Annual Conference 2023
September 5-7 | The Oculus, University of Warwick | Warwick, United Kingdom
Are you interested in stimulating student ownership with a modern student-driven e-portfolio in preparation for lifelong learning? We would love to connect with you there!
The student-owned learning experience portfolio
Portflow is the student-owned learning experience portfolio that empowers students to take the wheel of their education, fully synergized with your VLE* for a seamless end-user experience.
Portflow helps students to prepare for a rapidly changing future in which lifelong learning is essential. To be successful in this, learning to take responsibility for one’s own learning is an important prerequisite.
In Portflow, students can make their developmental progress visible and accountable under their own control by collecting evidence, asking for feedback from teachers, peers, and experts, and creating an assessment file. Portflow supports iterative learning, programmatic assessment, rich 360° feedback from both VLE users and external users, goal setting, and snapshots of a portfolio at any given moment while empowering the student to take the driver’s seat. Meanwhile, teachers can provide students with matching scaffolding by offering templates, comments, and reviews.

How to design Programmatic Assessment for Lifelong Learner Skills with a Portfolio?
Programmatic Assessment, although traditionally applied in medical training programmes, proves to be a very suitable concept for preparing students for lifelong learning in all professions. In order to foster responsible and adaptive learners for an increasingly unpredictable future workforce, institutions are putting more emphasis on skill development. Rich and holistic insights into the learning process towards skill mastery are crucial to achieve this. Portflow enables this process while also stimulating learner agency, fostering responsible and adaptive learners. In this session, we’ll explore the power of programmatic assessment in a student-owned portfolio, and we’ll discuss use-cases from various Dutch universities.
Why you should consider student-led learning for your future education
Students need to be prepared for a rapidly changing future in which lifelong learning is an integral part. We don’t know yet what the future occupations of students will look like. What we do know is that change as a constant requires flexibility and responsibility. Appealing to students’ ownership of learning and recognizing their personal contexts, motivations, and strengths is a promising strategy to help embrace uncertainty and unpredictability in education. In this session, we will revisit a framework for facilitating intrinsic learning motivation and discuss its current relevance to designing engaging (digital) learning experiences, of which modern e-portfolios are part of.
We look forward to seeing you there!
