Assessment & Curriculum Redesign: Keeping Students Engaged, Making Skills Count
A hands-on workshop to share challenges, compare approaches and work on assessment redesign together.
Tuesday 17 November 2026 – 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (GMT)
Location: Malmaison Birmingham (1 Wharfside Street, Birmingham, United Kingdom)
Workshop summary
AI is making assessment and curriculum redesign an urgent priority. Jisc identifies a shift towards programme-level assessment, while TEQSA, Australia’s higher education regulator, calls for assessment that captures trustworthy evidence of students’ capabilities and prepares them to use AI responsibly. For university teams, the practical challenge is adapting these changes to their disciplines, time, and students.
Join us for a free, hands-on workshop to bring your assessment challenges, share your expertise and work through ideas with peers. With modern/post 92 universities in mind, we’ll explore how redesign can support engagement and progression for students balancing study, work, commuting and caring responsibilities, while helping them recognise the value of their learning.
A practical starting point is making student development visible throughout a programme. Portfolio-based assessment combines evidence of skills, feedback, and reflection over time, providing a richer picture of learning than a final submission alone. As generative AI reshapes assessment, Jisc highlights portfolios to capture authentic evidence of learning. We’ll explore putting these approaches into practice through Portflow, helping students demonstrate both their learning process and acquired skills.
Designed for learning designers, learning technologists, programme leaders and directors, academic developers, assessment leads, and anyone interested in assessment and curriculum redesign.
Connect with peers who understand your challenges, and leave with fresh perspectives, a practical workbook, and lasting connections. Bring a challenge, share your perspective, and help shape the conversation!
