Portflow is the student-owned learning & assessment portfolio dedicated to enhancing assessment by streamlining programme-level assessment processes. As universities rethink their assessment and curriculum designs in light of generative AI, Portflow offers an important advantage: it prioritises process over product and empowers learners to personalise how they demonstrate their progress towards achieving learning outcomes. Portflow enables institutions to…:

  • … integrate feedback into learning, support assessment as, of, and for learning.
  • … track skill development across courses, units, work-integrated learning (WIL) and extracurricular activities.
  • … build assessments that are more authentic, resilient to AI, and meaningful for real-world application.
  • … deliver a smooth user experience, through its strong synergy with the LMS and intuitive user interface.

“Portflow is playing a crucial part in ECU’s Curriculum Transformation Program: a university-wide transition towards holistic programmatic learning that will enhance learner agency and feedback literacy. Together with Portflow, we are redefining what meaningful learning and assessment look like in Australian higher education.“

Professor Katrina Strampel, Director, Centre for Learning and Teaching at Edith Cowen University

Join our session at ePortfolio Forum 2026

Topic: From Compliance to Growth – A Hands-On Look at Holistic Learning
Date & Time: Thursday 24 september, 11.50 AM – 12.50 PM

Programmatic assessment has moved from academic theory to institutional practice, but for many educators, the concept still feels abstract until they see and use a system built around it. This workshop gives participants a hands-on, 60-minute introduction to holistic learning and assessment as embodied in Portflow, an ePortfolio designed for programmatic assessment and learner agency.

Pieter, an educationalist and Portflow’s global product manager, will open with a short framing of holistic/programmatic assessment as a modern response to compliance-driven testing: continuous evidence collection, competency frameworks over isolated grades, and student ownership of the learning narrative. Participants will then work directly in Portflow, stepping into the student role: collecting evidence, linking it to a goal or competency, requesting and giving feedback, and viewing how scattered artifacts build into a holistic picture of development over time.

After attending this session, you will leave with a concrete, felt sense of what “holistic assessment” looks like day-to-day, not just as policy language, but as a workflow you’ve experienced yourself.

Empowering Institutions to Rethink Their Assessment in the Age of AI

The advent of generative AI forces us to rethink outdated assessment methods and transition to developmentally oriented education, ensuring that diplomas retain their value and curricula are more closely aligned with professional practice.

A digital portfolio like Portflow is a crucial link in this transformation to an AI-resistant assessment strategy. It provides the digital infrastructure needed to shift the focus to holistic, developmentally oriented, and longitudinal assessment, ensuring that every graduate can present a verifiable and authentic portfolio of competency development.

In this whitepaper, we explain why a developmentally oriented approach is important for future-proof assessment and examine practical examples from several leading Dutch educational institutions.
