THE CHALLENGE
“Borrowed” Systems Built for Credit, not Continuing Education
When Emily Keener, Director of Continuing and Professional Education (CAPE) at UIS, joined the team, the department was relying on outdated systems that weren’t built for continuing education. Two separate LMSs supported different programs, creating disconnected workflows and making it difficult to manage learner data effectively.
For learners, these limitations created unnecessary friction. The existing CRM was designed around traditional credit-bearing admissions, meaning professionals looking to take a single course could face the same application process as a degree-seeking student.
The previous CRM forced non-traditional learners through a complex admissions funnel designed for full-time students. They often questioned the necessity of a full academic application when their goal was simply to enroll in a single professional development course.
