Feedback can now be captured anywhere and anytime with the newest feature: ad hoc feedback. Following the recent release of the Portflow mobile app, which empowered learners to capture evidence of learning experience on the go, we have now taken the next step. Learners can now effortlessly capture an equally significant part of their learning activity: feedback.

As Portflow aims to facilitate a holistic approach to assessment, capturing all relevant feedback is paramount. Therefore, we believe that gathering feedback should be as seamless and immediate as the learning experience itself. Whether it is a quick remark from a workplace supervisor or a peer review during a group project, ad hoc feedback ensures these valuable insights — which are often delivered verbally — are never lost.

Seamless Feedback Collection

The new ad hoc feedback feature allows learners to generate a QR code directly within Portflow or via the mobile app. This code can be generated from any piece of evidence. By simply scanning the QR code with their own device, the feedback provider (e.g. teacher, peer, external professional) can quickly and easily give feedback on the specific activity in the learner’s portfolio. This significantly lowers the barrier for feedback providers to offer in-the-moment feedback. It removes the friction of sharing access to a portfolio, sending feedback requests, and logging in, allowing the focus to remain on the constructive dialogue. The feedback provider does not need to have a pre-installed app, any modern smartphone with a camera will do just fine.

Guaranteed Authenticity of Feedback

While speed and ease of use are paramount, maintaining the integrity of the learning & assessment portfolio is equally important. We have designed the process to ensure that “quick” doesn’t mean “unverified”. Once a feedback provider scans the QR code and submits their feedback, they will be asked by email to validate the feedback. This validation can also happen later, e.g. once the feedback provider is back at their computer. This ensures the authenticity of the feedback source without slowing down the real-time feedback interaction. It provides the perfect balance between the flexibility of “on-the-go” feedback and the reliability required for an assessment portfolio.
