What is Portflow for Canvas LMS?
Portflow is a plug-in (LTI app) for Canvas LMS. In Portflow, students can make their developmental progress visible and accountable under their own control by collecting evidence, asking for feedback from teachers, peers, and experts, and creating an assessment file. Teachers can provide students with the necessary scaffolding in this process.
Everything takes place within the trusted environment that Canvas LMS offers, so that users benefit from both barrier-free visual integration and a seamless functional connection. This synergy offers many advantages for students and teachers. For example, Portflow can be found within the main menu of Canvas, making an additional account unnecessary.
Why is an e-portfolio tool an added value for Canvas LMS?
Canvas LMS is one of the most popular Learning Management Systems in the world. And rightly so, because the system contributes to a positive learning experience by, among other things, organising subject-related information, assignments and tests in a clear and user-friendly way.
However, one could also think of situations in which the LMS alone does not provide all the desired functionalities. Think, for example, of visualising learning objectives, compiling an assessment portfolio and providing targeted (multimodal) feedback. A digital portfolio such as Portflow adds functionalities to Canvas LMS that are essential for putting educational concepts such as programmatic assessment into practice.
How does the integration between Portflow and Canvas LMS work?

Portflow integrates deeply with Canvas LMS. Portflow’s goal is never to compete with existing LMS functionality, but rather to complement the LMS with additional valuable functionality and workflows. This deep synergy allows end users to experience Canvas and Portflow as one seamless whole.
Import Canvas assignments, including attachments, feedback and rubrics
Portflow allows users (learners) to import previously submitted and graded assignments (and associated feedback, attachments and rubrics) from Canvas into their portfolio as evidence. This allows them to gather feedback and evidence from a rich variety of learning contexts and take valuable feedback with them on their learning journey after a course has been completed.
Portflow is accessible via Canvas' main menu
Portflow does not run as yet another extra/separate tool. Users can seamlessly access Portflow from within Canvas without having to leave Canvas, remember additional login credentials, or work with multiple browser tabs. When using Portflow, the main Canvas navigation remains available. Because Portflow is a cross-course tool, its availability is independent of specific enrollments.

With deep integration based on certified LTI Advantage (1.3), Portflow relies on Canvas’ existing user management, including authentication and provisioning. This significantly reduces the amount of administration that would usually be required for a standalone tool.
