Discover The Added Value of An ePortfolio for Higher Education
We chose Portflow as an extension to the LMS based on our education and assessment policy; it helps us give students control over their own learning path, with development-oriented testing and assessment.
With the implementation of and collaboration with Portflow, we will continue to work on our ambition to help students take ownership of their learning process and to stimulate development-oriented education in the years to come.
We deploy Portflow as a catalyst for our educational transition towards outcome-oriented learning. Learners will use Portflow to visualise their learning process and demonstrate learning outcomes at the helm of their education.”
Give Students Control Over Their Own Learning Journey with Portfolio-based Education
In line with their new education and assessment policy established in 2022, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) strives to give students more control over their own learning process. This requires a tool that gives students ownership and supports them in their development. The AUAS chose Portflow because it best met their desire for a uniform yet flexible solution that is fully integrated with their current VLE Brightspace, helps implement the modern educational vision, and is prepared for future developments in education.
In collaboration with Drieam, Portflow was successfully implemented across the entire institution. Now, Portflow in combination with the VLE plays an important role in stimulating student ownership and engagement in their own learning journey.
“Portflow helps us to communicate the expectations from the curriculum more clearly to students and to make the relationship between the various assignments and learning outcomes more transparent. Thanks to Portflow, students better understand why they are doing what they are doing. They can see their own development concerning the different learning outcomes and can therefore more easily determine which topics or skills have been underexposed so far.”
Sanne Hayes, Lecturer & Implementation | Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS)
Stimulate Student Ownership with Portflow
Due to rapid societal and technological changes, professionals are increasingly expected to quickly adapt to these changes and continue to develop throughout their lives. To prepare students for this, it is important that education focuses more on developing skills, competencies, and attitudes, in addition to acquiring theoretical knowledge.
As an existing user of Canvas VLE, Fontys University of Applied Sciences found Portflow to be the portfolio solution that enables programmatic assessment and puts the student in the driver’s seat of their learning journey.
Portflow is crucial for the operationalisation of their educational vision, Talent-oriented Education.
“Student ownership has become very quickly visible thanks to the combination of Portflow and Canvas VLE. It has all become much easier to follow what a student is doing and what that learning journey looks like. This visibility is very clear in the growth and self-reliance of students.”
Brigit Kolen, Challenge-based Learning Coach & Expert in Programmatic Assessment | Fontys University of Applied Science
Portflow Is A VLE-Independent LTI App
Portflow is a plug-in (LTI app) for your VLE / LMS (Canvas by Instructure, D2L Brightspace, Moodle, or Blackboard). It integrates seamlessly with your VLE: use the VLE’s native navigation, import submitted assignment attempts as evidence, and freeze the portfolio for submission so it can be graded in the Grader.
This way, users benefit from both a seamless visual integration and a seamless functional connection.
